Finnmark Ski & Sail

Finnmark Norway

Finnmark offers one of Norway’s most remote and rewarding ski touring experiences.

Based aboard our expedition vessel, we explore the spectacular fjords and mountains of Western Finnmark, travelling through a landscape shaped by the Arctic Ocean, steep mountain terrain and small fishing communities scattered along the coastline.

Our base throughout the week is M/S Ulla Rinman, a former Swedish Sea Rescue vessel and an ideal platform for accessing ski objectives far beyond the reach of traditional land-based trips.

The combination of sea, mountains and Arctic light creates a unique ski touring experience. Expect summit descents directly towards the fjords, quiet anchorages, excellent spring snow conditions and the flexibility to adapt each day to weather, sea and snow conditions.

With six days of skiing, comfortable accommodation on board and access to a vast network of fjords and mountains, Finnmark has become one of Northern Norway’s most exciting destinations for ski touring and ski mountaineering.

Program

The exact route is determined by weather, snow and sea conditions, allowing us to make the most of each day and maximise the quality of the skiing.

Operating from our expedition vessel gives us access to a vast network of fjords, islands and ski objectives throughout Western Finnmark. Protected anchorages, remote bays and small fishing communities provide both shelter and access to exceptional ski touring terrain.

Each day begins with breakfast on board before heading ashore for ski touring. Depending on the objective, typical days involve 5–7 hours of skiing and touring, with summit descents leading directly towards the fjords and the Arctic Ocean.

After returning to the vessel, guests can enjoy the ship’s famous after-ski soup, relax on board and share stories from the day while we travel towards the next destination. During the week there are excellent opportunities to experience Arctic wildlife, dramatic coastal landscapes and the unique atmosphere created by the midnight sun.

A detailed itinerary is provided before departure, but flexibility remains an essential part of every successful Ski & Sail expedition.

EXPEDITION LOGISTICS

A dedicated expedition Zodiac allows efficient ship-to-shore operations throughout the week. Fast and reliable transfers maximize our time in the mountains while providing the flexibility required to adapt to weather, sea and snow conditions.
