This introductory course is designed for people with little or no previous climbing experience who want to learn the fundamentals of climbing and rope work while spending rewarding days in the mountains.
Rock climbing develops movement, balance, confidence and problem-solving skills. It is also the foundation for many alpine activities such as mountaineering, via ferrata and alpine climbing.
Throughout the course we combine practical climbing with instruction and coaching tailored to the participants’ experience and ambitions. No previous climbing experience is required.

Content
The aim of this course is to provide participants with a solid foundation in rock climbing and rope work.
During the course we combine practical climbing with instruction and coaching in a safe and inspiring environment. The focus is on building confidence, understanding basic systems and developing the skills required to climb independently with a partner on simple routes.
Topics may include:
• Equipment and safety checks
• Climbing movement and technique
• Belaying
• Communication and rope team collaboration
• Anchor systems
• Rappelling
• Placing natural protection
• Multi-pitch climbing fundamentals
• Route finding and risk awareness
The course content is adapted according to the participants’ experience and ambitions. The program follows the general recommendations and principles of introductory rock climbing courses used by the Swedish Climbing Association.

Central Switzerland offers a variety of excellent climbing venues ideally suited for learning and progression.
Possible climbing areas include:

• Susten Pass
• Furka Pass
• Göscheneralp
• Meiringen
• Ticino
Depending on weather conditions and the experience of the participants, the course may take place at one or several of these locations.
The exact program is designed to provide the best possible learning environment and climbing experience.
Intro to Rock Climbing courses can be arranged from May through October, when climbing conditions in Central Switzerland are generally at their best.
Courses are available as private programs, small groups or customized training days and can be scheduled throughout the season.
Depending on weather conditions and participant experience, we select the most suitable climbing area to provide the best possible learning environment.

Level required
This course is designed for beginners with little or no previous climbing experience.
As with all mountain activities, a reasonable level of fitness is recommended. No previous rock climbing experience is required.

Travel
The course is based in Central Switzerland and is easily accessible by train or car from Zürich.
The exact climbing venue is selected according to weather conditions and participant experience.
Insurance
Participants are responsible for arranging appropriate travel and accident insurance.

From CHF 400 per person/day.

Guide expenses such as transportation, accommodation, lift tickets and hut costs are not included unless otherwise specified.
Pricing follows the recommended fee structure of the Swiss Mountain Guides Association (SBV).
